This calculator is for guidance only. It does not tell you the duty you will actually pay, and YAM Logistics Pvt. Ltd. accepts no legal responsibility for any use of it.
- For guidance only. The Customs Duty Calculator (the “Tool”) is provided free of charge by YAM Logistics Pvt. Ltd. (“YAM”) for general information and guidance. Every figure it shows is an indicative estimate only.
- Not an assessment or professional advice. Results are not a classification ruling, a customs assessment, a valuation decision, or legal, tax or other professional advice. Customs duty is assessed only by the proper officer of Customs under the Customs Act, 1962, and the duty payable is the amount finally assessed by Customs.
- Classification and declarations are your responsibility. Under self-assessment, the importer is responsible for the correct classification, valuation, origin and any exemption claimed in the bill of entry. Choosing a tariff line in the Tool does not confirm that it is the correct classification for your goods. For a binding decision, apply to the Customs Authority for Advance Rulings.
- The data may be incomplete or out of date. The Tool is based on publicly available government sources as on the dates stated on this page. Rates change often through new notifications and the Finance Act. The Tool may not reflect recent amendments, Budget changes, conditions attached to exemptions, anti-dumping, safeguard or countervailing duty, agriculture cess, compensation cess, end-use or manufacturer-specific concessions, rules of origin under trade agreements, or the requirements of DGFT and other regulatory agencies. Errors may also arise in the source documents or in converting them.
- No warranty. The Tool and its results are provided “as is” and “as available”, without any warranty, express or implied, including as to accuracy, completeness, currency or fitness for a particular purpose.
- No liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, YAM, its directors, employees and agents accept no responsibility or liability for any loss, damage, cost or expense of any kind, whether direct, indirect or consequential, including any duty, interest, penalty, fine, redemption fine, confiscation, demurrage, detention or loss of profit, arising from any use of or reliance on the Tool or its results.
- Verify before you act. Before you import, quote a price, sign a contract or file a bill of entry, verify the classification, rates and policy conditions with the official sources (CBIC, ICEGATE and DGFT) and with a licensed customs broker. Exchange rates are pre-filled from the latest CBIC customs exchange rate notification (import rates, as published on ICEGATE); Customs applies the rate in force on the date the bill of entry is filed, so check it if a new notification has been issued since.
- Our advice on your shipment is separate. Using the Tool does not create a client relationship with YAM. If you engage YAM, our advice on your specific shipment is given separately in writing and is governed by our standard terms of business.

Customs duty questions
How is Indian import duty calculated?+
Basic customs duty (BCD) is charged on the assessable value, which is the CIF value converted at the CBIC customs exchange rate. Landing charges (the old 1%) have not been added since CBIC amended the valuation rules in 2017. If freight or insurance is not known, customs practice is to add 20% of the FOB value for freight and 1.125% for insurance. Social welfare surcharge (SWS) is normally 10% of the BCD. IGST is then charged on the assessable value plus BCD and SWS. Some goods also attract agriculture cess (AIDC), compensation cess, anti-dumping or safeguard duty.
Is this calculator exact?+
It is an estimate based on the published tariff and the main notifications. The duty actually payable depends on the exact classification, exemption conditions, end use, valuation and any anti-dumping duty. A licensed broker should confirm it before you import.
Which data does it use?+
The CBIC Customs Tariff (as on 30 June 2025), the consolidated exemption Notification 45/2025-Customs, IGST Notification 9/2025-Integrated Tax (Rate), the DGFT ITC(HS) 2022 Schedule I import policy and the India–UAE CEPA Notification 22/2022 as amended. Budget 2026 changes are being added.
What does Restricted or Prohibited mean?+
Restricted goods need an import authorisation or must meet a DGFT policy condition, such as a licence, registration or certificate. Prohibited goods cannot be imported. State trading (STE) goods can only be imported through notified state agencies.
Do trade agreements reduce the duty?+
Often, yes. Goods that qualify under the rules of origin of an agreement such as India–UAE CEPA, India–ASEAN or India–Japan CEPA can pay lower or zero basic customs duty, with a valid certificate of origin. IGST is still payable.
Why does the IGST rate say 'check'?+
Some HSN codes have different GST rates depending on the exact product, packing or use. Where the rate depends on the description, we show the likely rate and the alternatives so a broker can confirm the right one.
