CBM & volumetric weight calculator
Enter your carton sizes to see total volume, air chargeable weight and how much of a container you'll use. Add as many box sizes as you need.
How it's calculated
What is CBM?+
CBM (cubic metre) is the volume of your cargo. Length × width × height in metres × number of pieces. Example: 120 × 80 × 100 cm = 0.96 m³ per box.
What is volumetric (dimensional) weight?+
Airlines charge for the space a shipment takes up, not just its weight. Volumetric weight = L × W × H in cm ÷ 6,000 (IATA standard). Courier and express services usually use ÷ 5,000.
What is chargeable weight?+
The higher of the actual gross weight and the volumetric weight. Airlines usually round it up to the next half kilo. Light, bulky cargo is charged on volume, and heavy, compact cargo on weight.
What does W/M mean for sea LCL?+
Weight or Measure. LCL is billed on whichever is greater: the volume in m³ or the weight in tonnes (1,000 kg = 1 revenue tonne).
How accurate is the container fit?+
It uses practical loadable volumes of about 28 m³ (20′), 58 m³ (40′) and 68 m³ (40′ HC), which allow for gaps and stacking. Odd shapes, non-stackable cargo or weight limits can change the real answer, so ask us to plan the load.
