Pay duty when you sell, not when it lands.
Import in bulk, store under customs bond and clear it lot by lot as your buyers order. Or never pay Indian duty at all, if the goods go on to another country. We run the filings, the bond and the paperwork from arrival to final release.
Duty deferred. Cash freed. Options kept open.
In bond, out in lots, or out of India.
Bonded warehouse or FTWZ?
Both let you store imported goods without paying duty upfront. Which one fits depends on how long you hold the goods and what you do with them.
| CUSTOMS BONDED WAREHOUSE | FREE TRADE WAREHOUSING ZONE | |
|---|---|---|
| Legal basis | Customs Act 1962, Sections 57 to 69 | Special Economic Zones Act 2005 |
| Duty on arrival | Deferred until clearance | Not payable while in the zone |
| Selling into India | Ex-bond bill of entry, duty paid per lot | Cleared into India as an import, duty paid then |
| Value-added work | Sorting, repacking, relabelling with permission; manufacturing under MOOWR | Wide range: kitting, labelling, assembly-type services |
| Best for | Lot-wise sales in India and re-exports | Regional hubs, long-dwell stock and distribution |
General guidance only. Storage periods, interest and permitted operations depend on the goods and the warehouse, and are confirmed case by case against current CBIC rules.
Bonded warehousing questions
What is a customs bonded warehouse?+
A warehouse licensed by Indian Customs where imported goods can be stored without paying duty. Duty becomes payable only when goods are cleared for use in India. If they are exported instead, no Indian import duty is paid.
How long can goods stay in bond?+
It depends on the type of goods and the warehouse. Extensions are possible in many cases. We check the rules that apply to your goods before they arrive.
Can I clear part of a shipment?+
Yes. That is one of the main reasons to use a bonded warehouse. Each lot is cleared on its own ex-bond bill of entry, with duty paid only on that lot.
Do you have your own bonded warehouse?+
We work with licensed public bonded warehouses and FTWZs at the major ports and handle all the customs filings ourselves, as your licensed broker.
What is MOOWR?+
The Manufacture and Other Operations in Warehouse Regulations under Section 65. They let a licensed facility manufacture with imported inputs while the duty stays deferred.
